As you might imagine, we get to work on some pretty amazing cars every single day here at Freeman's Car Stereo and we wanted to share one of those with you today. Here's a look at the work Travis and his crew did on this ultra rare 2018 Mercedes G550 Squared 4x4 at our Cornelius (Lake Norman) store.
How rare is this vehicle?
This 2018 Mercedes G550 Squared 4x4 in matte black is one of only roughly 100 made in this trim package by Mercedes.
Push To Start
What a better place to start then on the push to start feature we installed for this job. Even though Mercedes doesn't offer push to start in this particular trim package, the customer wanted the added convenience and we were more than happy to make it happen.
Thanks to the new push to start, the G can also now also be started right from the factory remote.
Radar and Laser Protection
Even the hottest cars don't look great when they've been pulled over for speeding. Luckily, the G550 got outfitted with a new Escort max 360 ci Radar system for front and rear detection with laser shifting capabilities. To get the look as clean as possible we added the radar display right into the rear view mirror.
Light It Up
Details like interior LED lighting can really take the look of a custom job like this to next level. Once the RGB floorboard accent lighting by Race Sport was installed, you can't really imagine the interior any other way.
The Sound Upgrades
If you were worried that we didn't upgrade the audio, rest assured we got it done.
First, we started by updating the speaker locations with some Focal K2 component speakers powered by the JL Audio XD1000/5 amplifier. For tuning we incorporated the ADS DSR1 processor so the customer can make seamless, easy changes directly through Bluetooth.
Then we built a sleek, space saving enclosure for 2 JL 8w3 subs that we sealed in order to get that tight response. To add some finishing touches, we covered the trim panel with matching Alcantara suede and then pattern matched the box face with diamond stitch Alcantara suede. Just to tie it all together, we also re-covered the factory sunvisors to match as well.
Interior/Exterior Details
Finally, we tied everything together with some sharp exterior upgrades.
We worked with the client to orchestrate powder coating --in black of course--on the:
- Wheels
- Rear Crash Bar
- Bar Steps
- Exhaust Tips
Then we added a Brabus LED front spoiler with the Brabus wiring harness and switch for the overhead LED lights.
For the final exterior touch, we sent the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to RENNtech for a flash update to get this beast moving even quicker. We even updated the air filters!
In the end, the Mercedes G550 project was really more of a journey than a job and we couldn't be happier with how it turned out.
