Carolina Panthers PLAY 60 Truck by Freeman's

"When people see it in person for the first time everyone is just like WOW!!"
Matt Elledge, Freeman's Stereo Video

Earlier this year, the Carolina Panthers approached Freeman's Stereo Video in Cornelius, NC about creating a vehicle that could help promote the NFL's PLAY 60 campaign in our communities. We were given a huge cargo truck, a budget, and a 3 week deadline. The result: a 130" video wall and 4000 watts of audio.

What Is PLAY 60?

For 10 years now, the NFL has been running PLAY 60: a campaign that encourages kids to get out and be active for at least 60 minutes per day.

The PLAY 60 website says of the program, "Designed to tackle childhood obesity, NFL PLAY 60 brings together the NFL's long-standing commitment to health and fitness with an impressive roster of partner organizations. In addition to national outreach and online programs, NFL PLAY 60 is implemented at the grassroots level through NFL's in-school, after-school and team-based programs. The NFL PLAY 60 initiative is prominent during the NFL's key calendar events, including Super Bowl, Pro Bowl, Draft, Kickoff and Thanksgiving and is supported by many NFL players and coaches year round. To date, the NFL has dedicated over $200 million to youth health and wellness through NFL PLAY 60."

Travis Grimm, Store Manager for Freeman's Stereo Video in Cornelius describes how the project came about: "The Panthers organization reached out to me about designing something cool and engaging that would accommodate 250+ kids at one time with an audio/visual interaction. They gave me an open canvas to design something and present it to them. So I wanted to do something we have never done before on this scale and really step out on the fabrication and integration horizon."

The first step was to open up the side of the van like a vending trailer to make the TVs visible and to make it very easy to setup on site at there camps. To start, a 15' x 6' tall opening was cut. From there Matt Elledge, of Freeman's Home Division, started fabricating and building the sub structure out of metal and welded it all together. Once the TVs were in place, they were flanked with four 15" EV PA speakers for the audio portion with an integrated wireless mic to make it easy for speakers to walk around and address a crowd.
